Pulmonary embolism

A Pulmonary Embolism occurs when a thrombus—commonly originating in the deep veins of the legs—travels to the pulmonary vasculature. Resultant occlusion impairs gas exchange, potentially causing hypoxia and hemodynamic instability, often mandating anticoagulation, thrombolysis, or embolectomy.
