Low-molecular-weight heparin provides anticoagulant effects by inhibiting factor Xa, offering predictable pharmacokinetics with fewer required laboratory monitoring sessions compared to unfractionated heparin. It is used prophylactically in post-surgical patients and therapeutically in acute venous thromboembolism.
