Einsteinium
Einsteinium is a synthetic, highly radioactive element first discovered in 1952 in the debris of the first hydrogen bomb test. Einsteinium is a silvery-white metal that glows blue in the dark due to its intense radioactivity. It has no stable isotopes. As an actinide element, einsteinium is highly reactive and primarily exists in the +3 oxidation state.
It is extremely rare, with only a few milligrams produced annually through neutron bombardment of plutonium in nuclear reactors. Due to its scarcity and short half-life, einsteinium has no practical applications outside of scientific research. It is mainly used to study radiation effects and in the production of heavier transuranic elements.
