ALT
Alanine aminotransferase (see SGPT)
Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), also known as serum glutamate-pyruvate transaminase (SGPT), is an enzyme primarily found in the liver. It plays a key role in amino acid metabolism. Elevated levels of ALT in the blood are a marker of liver damage or inflammation, often seen in conditions such as hepatitis, fatty liver disease, or liver toxicity. ALT is commonly measured in liver function tests to assess liver health.
