ABR
Auditory brainstem response
Auditory brainstem response (ABR) is a non-invasive electrophysiological test that measures how the auditory nerve and brainstem respond to sound stimuli. Small electrodes are placed on the scalp and earlobes, and sounds (such as clicks or tones) are presented through headphones. The resulting electrical activity is recorded, reflecting the neural transmission from the ear through the auditory pathways of the brainstem.
ABR is commonly used to assess hearing function, particularly in newborns, infants, or individuals who cannot participate in standard hearing tests. It also helps diagnose hearing loss, auditory nerve disorders, and certain neurological conditions affecting the brainstem.
