AAT
Animal-assisted therapy
Animal-assisted therapy (AAT) is a therapeutic intervention that involves animals, such as dogs, horses, or cats, to support physical, emotional, and cognitive health. In clinical settings, animals are integrated into a structured treatment plan to enhance patients’ well-being, reduce anxiety, improve mood, and facilitate social interactions.
AAT is particularly effective in pediatric, geriatric, and mental health care, helping patients cope with trauma, stress, or developmental challenges. Studies have shown benefits in promoting emotional regulation, decreasing pain perception, and fostering trust and communication skills.
