Bohrium
In 1981, a German research team created bohrium by bombarding bismuth-209 with chromium-54 nuclei. They managed to produce just 5 atoms of bohrium-262, which had a fleeting half-life of about 85 milliseconds. Despite its extremely short existence, this tiny amount was enough to confirm the discovery of element 107 and earn the team naming rights.
They proposed the name “nielsbohrium” with the symbol Ns. However, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) recommended shortening it to “bohrium” (Bh), as there was no precedent for using a scientist’s full name for an element.
