ART

Antiretroviral therapy

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is the use of a combination of medications to treat HIV infection. ART works by suppressing the replication of the virus, reducing viral load to undetectable levels, and preventing the progression to AIDS. It also helps preserve immune function and reduces the risk of HIV transmission. ART typically involves drugs from different classes, such as NRTIs, NNRTIs, PIs, and integrase inhibitors, to prevent viral resistance. When taken consistently, ART allows individuals with HIV to live longer, healthier lives.
