AIDS

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome

AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is the advanced stage of HIV infection, marked by a severely weakened immune system, leading to increased susceptibility to opportunistic infections and certain cancers. With the advent of antiretroviral therapy (ART), HIV can be managed as a chronic condition, significantly reducing the progression to AIDS. Early diagnosis and adherence to ART have transformed outcomes, allowing many individuals with HIV to live long, healthy lives. However, global challenges remain in terms of access to treatment and reducing new infections.
