Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion is a spinal fusion technique in which the disc space is accessed via a posterolateral route. Surgeons remove disc material, insert a cage packed with bone graft, and stabilize the spine with pedicle screws to address degenerative disc disease or spondylolisthesis.
