Inferior mesenteric vein

The inferior mesenteric vein drains blood from the distal colon and rectum, ultimately joining the splenic vein. Occlusion or thrombosis of the IMV can lead to ischemic bowel segments, highlighting the importance of prompt vascular and surgical evaluation.
