ADH

Antidiuretic hormone

Antidiuretic hormone (ADH), also known as vasopressin, is a hormone produced by the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary gland. It plays a critical role in regulating water balance by acting on the kidneys to reduce water loss. ADH increases water reabsorption in the renal tubules, leading to more concentrated urine and maintaining blood volume and pressure. It is released in response to dehydration, low blood volume, or high blood osmolality.
